ACT SEVEN

INT. WILLOWS HOUSE - THE DINING ROOM - DAY

Willow, Sara, Andrew, and Ruby are all at the table, which is covered with books.  They have been studying all night.  Willow, Sara, and Ruby are looking intently at their books, but Andrew is asleep on his.  Willow flips pages noisily, then slams her book shut.

                          WILLOW
             This is ridiculous!

                          ANDREW
                  (jolts awake)
             Im awake, Im awake!

                          WILLOW
There is nothing here on Wai-Yi.

Andrew touches his mouth, realizing that he has been drooling.  He glances around to see if the others are looking.  Then he unobtrusively wipes off the pages of the book he was sleeping on.

                          RUBY
Well, at least we found out that his name
             is Chinese.

                          WILLOW
And that would be useful if I had any texts
whatsoever on Chinese magic bad guys.

                          SARA
Why dont we ask Michael Ang?

                          WILLOW
             Our self-defense teacher?

                          SARA
Hes not just a self-defense teacher.  Hes
also a professor at the university.  His
specialty is Chinese Myths and Religions.

INT. THE UNIVERSITY - MICHAEL ANGS OFFICE - DAY

Michael Ang is sitting in his office, working at his desk. There is a knock on the door.

                          MICHAEL
             Come in.

Willow and Sara enter the office.  Michael is surprised to see his self-defense students.  He stands and moves to the side of his desk to greet them.

                          MICHAEL
             Sara, Willow.

                          SARA
             Professor Ang.

                          MICHAEL
You can still call me Michael here.  What
are you two doing here?  I missed you at our
             last class.

                          WILLOW
Yeah, sorry about that.  We were...just...

                          SARA
...feeling a little under the weather.

                          WILLOW
             Yeah...right...under the weather.

                          MICHAEL
Well, what can I do for you ladies?

                          WILLOW
We were hoping you could help us with a
             little problem were having.  Theres
this guy, a man, actually, a Chinese man,
if you really want to get specific about it,
             and he...see, hes...

                          SARA
                  (interrupting impatiently)
Do you know who Wai-Yi is?

                          MICHAEL
Wai-Yi?  Of course.  Hes a prominent
figure in Chinese mythology.  He was
             supposedly an extremely powerful sorcerer,
and an evil one at that.  He appears in many
texts, turning the tides of battles,
changing the course of history, that sort of
             thing.

                          SARA
Well, hes not a myth.  Hes real.  And
             hes here, in town.

Michael looks at Sara and Willow in disbelief at first, then amusement.  He chuckles.

                          MICHAEL
Whoa.  You really had me going there for a
minute.  I almost took you seriously.

                          WILLOW
You should.  Because were telling the
truth.  Wai-Yi is real, and hes after us,
well, me mainly, but the point is, we need
to know how to kill him.

                          SARA
See, were witches, but we dont have any
books that cover this guy.  We were hoping
             you did.

Michael again looks at Willow and Sara in disbelief, but seeing their serious expressions, he knows they arent kidding.

                          MICHAEL
                  (shakes his head)
I think I need to sit down.

Willow waves her hand, and Michaels chair magically scoots into place behind him and bumps him into sitting.  Willow waves her hand again, and Michael and his chair scoot clear across the office to where Willow and Sara are standing.  Michael arrives, startled and wide-eyed.

                          WILLOW
Wed love to continue the convincing game
with you, Michael, but we just dont have
the time.  Do you have resources on Wai-Yi
             or not?

INT. THE UNIVERSITY - MICHAEL ANGS OFFICE - DAY - LATER

Willow and Sara are at a table, taking notes from a couple of books.  Michael is standing on a stool, looking at a book he has just pulled off a high shelf.

                          MICHAEL
Hey!  Ive got it!  The passage I was
             looking for.

Michael gets down and comes over to Willow and Sara.  He puts the book in front of them.

                          MICHAEL
             See?

                          SARA
             Michael, this is in Chinese.

                          MICHAEL
                  (picks the book back up)
Oh, right.  It tells of an ancient battle,
one in which Wai-Yi was a key figure.  The
opposing faction wasnt able to kill him,
but they were able to bind him, render him
             powerless.

                          WILLOW
Well, clearly their binding didnt hold
             since hes out now.

                          MICHAEL
But it did hold, for about nine hundred
             years anyway.  Would that work?

                          WILLOW
             Nine hundred years?
                  (looks at Sara)
             Yep, thatll work.

EXT. THE UNIVERSITY - MICHAEL ANGS BUILDING - DAY

Willow and Sara are walking out of the building with Michael.

                          MICHAEL
Are you sure I cant help you with this?
There must be something I can do.

                          SARA
Sorry, sensei.  This is witches work.

                          WILLOW
I know I dont look like it, but Ive done
             this kind of thing before...

                          WAI-YI (V.O.)
             Willow.

                          WILLOW
             I happen to --

Willows face goes completely blank.

                          WAI-YI (V.O.)
             Beloved.  Come to me.

Willow turns and looks out across the lawn.

                          SARA
             Willow?

Sara moves closer to Willow and touches her arm.

                          SARA
             Youre trembling.  What is it?

                          WILLOW
Hes calling me.  I have to go.

                          SARA
             No!  Youre not going anywhere.
                  (turns Willow roughly around)
             Look at me!
                  (makes Willow look at her)
He doesnt own you.  You dont have to do
             what he says.

Willow struggles to regain control of herself, her eyes darting from Sara to the lawn and back.

                          WILLOW
             Hes so strong.

                          SARA
             We are stronger.

Sara kisses Willow passionately, and soon Willow returns the kiss.  The spell is broken.

                          MICHAEL
Excuse me, but what the hell just happened?

                          SARA
Wai-Yi tried to take control of Willows
mind.  Hes done it once before, but not
             this time.

                          MICHAEL
How are you going to be able to do the
binding spell if Wai-Yi can control Willow?

Willow and Sara exchange very worried looks.  They dont have a clue.

EXT. WILLOWS HOUSE - DAY

Willow and Sara pull up to the house and get out of the car.  Wai-Yi is waiting for them, unseen.

                          SARA
We still have to find a way to break his
hold on you.  I cant go around kissing you
every time you get blank look on your face.

                          WILLOW
                  (grinning playfully)
Oh, I dont know.  I wouldnt argue against
             earning some extra smoochies.

                          WAI-YI (V.O.)
             Willow.

Willow immediately goes stiff and turns.  Wai-Yi materializes several feet in front of her.

                          WAI-YI
             Beloved.  Come with me.

Willow leans towards Wai-Yi as if she is succumbing to his call.  Sara immediately grabs Willow and pulls her back.

                          SARA
No.  She isnt going anywhere with you.

                          WAI-YI
Do not interfere, witchling.  She belongs
with me, someone worthy of her, her equal.

                          WILLOW
                  (regaining her resolve)
No.  I dont belong with you.
                  (pulls away from Sara)
Im not your Dark Star or your Beloved,
and Im never going to be.  So why dont you
just go on back from wherever you came from
and find someone else to pester.

                          WAI-YI
             No!  You will be mine!

Wai-Yi roars and then blasts them both with a huge energy burst.  Willow and Sara are blown back against the car.  Willow puts up a shield as Wai-Yi hits them again.

                          WILLOW
Sara!  Get in the house now!  Youll be
             safe there.

                          SARA
             No!  Im not leaving you!

                          WILLOW
Sara, please!  I cant protect both of us.

Wai-Yi hits Willows shield again, and it crumbles.  Willow returns fire and sends Wai-Yi flying back.  He bounces right back up and blasts Willow, and she goes down.  Wai-Yi moves toward Willow, but Sara intervenes.

                          SARA
             Get away from her!

Wai-Yi smacks Sara so hard she goes flying.  Willow regains her footing just in time to see Sara crash through the living room window.

                          WILLOW
             Sara!

INT. WILLOWS HOUSE - THE LIVING ROOM - DAY

Ruby and Andrew are shocked from their seats when the window explodes inward as Saras body crashes into the room.  Sara is motionless on the floor.

EXT. WILLOWS HOUSE - DAY

Willow looks on, anguished, then she moves toward the house.  Wai-Yi comes up behind her and grabs her by the back of the neck, zapping her.  Willow immediately passes out.  Wai-Yi catches her and lifts her into his arms.  He smiles, and they both dematerialize.

INT. WILLOWS HOUSE - THE LIVING ROOM - DAY - LATER

Sara is on the couch being tended to by Ruby.  Andrew is cleaning up the debris from the window.  Saras eyes flutter open.

                          RUBY
             Sara?

                          SARA
                  (groggily)
             Ruby.
                  (then clear-headed and frightened)
             Wheres Willow?

                          RUBY
Easy, child.  One thing at a time.  Lets
             get you taken care of.

Sara grabs Rubys hands in a strong grip and moves them away.  Then she sits up.

                          SARA
                  (slowly but harshly)
             Where is Willow?

                          ANDREW
             He took her.

                          SARA
             Where?

                          ANDREW
We dont know.  He did his little
             transporter thing, and they disappeared.

                          SARA
We have to find them, now!

INT. SEEDY WAREHOUSE - DAY

Willow wakes up to find herself suspended, spread-eagle, held by magical bonds.  Wai-Yi is standing in front of her.  She looks around the room and makes a face.

                          WILLOW
Is this the best you could do?  You want to
make me your Beloved and you bring me back
             to this dump?

Wai-Yi smirks slightly.  Then he waves his hand, and the entire warehouse gets an instant redecorating makeover.  Now it looks like a luxurious ancient Chinese palace.

                          WAI-YI
             Better?

                          WILLOW
(looks it over with a critical eye)
             Itll do.

                          WAI-YI
Ah, but now we look out of place.  We cant
             have that.

Wai-Yi waves his hand again and changes their attire.  He dresses them both in gorgeous black silk/satin embroidered in gold and silver.

                          WAI-YI
             Only one change remains.

Wai-Yi goes to touch Willow, to change her into Evil Willow.

                          WILLOW
Wait!  Stop!  Arent you going to tell me
why you want me?  You know, what drew you to
me?  I mean, that would be the romantic
             thing to do.

                          WAI-YI
                  (realizing)
You want me to woo you.

                          WILLOW
Well, that is whats done in civilized
             societies.

Wai-Yi narrows his eyes suspiciously, but then he smiles.

                          WAI-YI
Very well.  It was a little over two years
ago.  I was going about my usual work, when
I felt the earth herself shudder.  A vast
power was being born.  My heart leapt.  At
long last, there was a power equal to my
own, a creature of darkness worthy of my
             love.

Wai-Yi starts walking around the room, clearly enjoying the opportunity for a speech.  Willow follows him with her eyes until he walks behind her.  Then she closes her eyes.

                          WILLOW (V.O.)
Sara?  Sara?  Can you hear me?  Im at the
warehouse.  The warehouse, Sara!  The same
             one!  Can you --

Willows thoughts are broken when Wai-Yi grabs her face roughly.

                          WAI-YI
You!  You dare contact that witchling whore
of yours while I pour out my love for you?
             No more!

Wai-Yi shapes his hand into a claw and jabs it into Willows chest magically.  Dark waves of pure black magic start pouring from Wai-Yi into Willow.  Willow screams as her body convulses.

INT. WILLOWS HOUSE - THE LIVING ROOM - DAY

                          ANDREW
What are we gonna do?  How can we find her?

                          SARA
I dont know.  Let me think.  There has
             to be --

Saras words are cut off when Willow makes mental contact with her.  Sara starts to crumple to the floor, but Andrew and Ruby catch her.

                          WILLOW (V.O.)

Im at the warehouse.  The warehouse, Sara!
The same one!  Can you --

Sara shakes her head to make the dizziness pass.  Then she stands up.

                          RUBY
              Sara, what is it?

                          SARA
Its Willow.  Shes at the warehouse.  Where
you found me.  Do you remember where it is?

                          RUBY
              Yes.

                          SARA
              Then lets go.

INT. SEEDY WAREHOUSE - DAY

Willow has stopped screaming, but she continues to convulse as Wai-Yi pours the black magic into her.  Willows eyes are now black.  Wai-Yi pulls back.  Willows head falls forward, and shes panting for air.

                          WAI-YI
             Now. Isnt that better?

                          WILLOW
             No...please...no more.

                          WAI-YI
Why do you resist?  This is who you really
are.  Who you are meant to be.  Why do you
choose to confine yourself in this pathetic
white-light shadow of your true self?

                          WILLOW
Because Im not evil!  Im not like you!

                          WAI-YI

Is that so?  Then why is it that, right now,
this very moment, you long for my next
touch, you hunger for it, for the dark power
that I can give you, that you once knew and
             embraced?

                          WILLOW
No.  Youre wrong.  I dont --

                          WAI-YI
             Liar!

Wai-Yi starts juicing Willow again.  Her convulsions become more violent, and her hair starts turning black.

INT. WILLOWS CAR - DAY

Ruby races the car through town towards the warehouse, as Sara and Andrew hang on.

                          SARA
             Hurry!  Shes barely hanging on!

                          RUBY
             Were almost there.

INT. SEEDY WAREHOUSE - DAY

Wai-Yi continues to force the black magic into Willow.  Veins start to form on her face, the convulsions cease, and she begins to smile.  Finally, she explodes from her bonds, sending Wai-Yi stumbling back.  Wai-Yi regains his footing and stares at his creation.  Evil Willow stands there in all her glory, with that smart-ass smirk on her face.

                          WILLOW
             You called?

                          WAI-YI
             At last.  My Dark Star.

                          WILLOW
My Dark Star.  You know, I kind of like
that.  Well, the Dark Star part anyway.  I
can do without the My part.  I dont
belong to you or to anyone.

                          WAI-YI
You are mine!  I brought you out.  And I
             shall have you.

                          WILLOW
             Uh, no, you wont.

                          WAI-YI
             We shall see.

                          WILLOW
             We certainly shall.

Willow blasts Wai-Yi across the room.  He jumps right up, and the fight is on.

Willow and Wai-Yi are in the thick of it when Sara, Andrew, and Ruby arrive, running into the warehouse.  They see that Willow has changed.

                          RUBY
             Sweet Jesus!

                          ANDREW
Oh, no!  Were too late.  Shes changed.

                          SARA
Dont say that!  Its not too late!

At the end of the fight, Willow is pummeling Wai-Yi.  Every punch is preceded by a mocking line from Willow.

                          WILLOW
             I tried to tell you.
                  (punch)
             But you wouldnt listen.
                  (punch)
             I dont belong to anyone.
                  (punch)
And even if I did belong to someone
                  (punch)
it wouldnt be someone like you.
                  (punch)
Im gay now.  Didnt you get the memo?

Willow shakes her head mockingly.  Then she whacks him with one final punch sending him flying across the room.  Willow turns to Sara.

                          WILLOW
             Hi, honey.

                          SARA
             Willow?

                          WILLOW
Be right with you.  Im almost done
             cleaning up.

Willow turns around and walks to Wai-Yi.  She squats beside him.  He is nothing but a bloody pulp, barely able to move.

                          WILLOW
You know what your mistake was?  Thinking
             you were my equal.

Willow suddenly grabs Wai-Yi by the throat and squeezes.  As she does so, she is draining the life out of him.  Sara, Andrew, and Ruby watch in horror as Willow pulls every bit of life force out of Wai-Yi, until hes nothing but a shell, until his neck bone crumbles into dust in her hand.  She stands, dusts off her hands, then stomps on his skull, shattering it, grinding it under her foot.

                          WILLOW
             You are so beneath me.

Sara moves cautiously towards Willow.

                          SARA
             Willow?

Willow turns around.  Shes smiling.  Her eyes are no longer black, but the rest of the Evil Willow trappings are there.

                          WILLOW
Hey, baby.  No need to worry.  I beat
the bad guy.  Ha, ha, get it?  Beat
             the bad guy.

Willow moves closer.  Sara just looks at Willow with a mixture of aghast fear and deep sorrow.

                          WILLOW
Aw, dont look at me like that.  I was
             hoping we could celebrate.

                          ANDREW
             Sara!  You cant trust her!

Willow angrily whips her head in Andrews direction.  Willow waves her hand at both him and Ruby.

Andrew and Ruby vanish in a whirl of energy.

                          SARA
Willow!  No!  What did you do?

                          WILLOW
                  (smiling again)
Dont worry, sweetie.  I just teleported
             them home.  Thats all.

Willow prowls seductively around Sara.  She puts her arms around Sara from behind.  She kisses Sara on the neck.  Sara is terrified.

                          WILLOW
                  (whispers into her ear)
I figured we needed some alone time.
             Dont you?

Willow returns to kissing Sara on her neck while letting her hand roam.  Sara grabs Willows roaming hand tightly, stopping it in place.

                          SARA
             No.  I dont.

Willows smile disappears at Saras words.

                          WILLOW
No?  Am I hearing you correctly?

Willow moves around to face Sara.  She glares at Sara menacingly.

                          WILLOW
             Are you saying No...to me?

Sara starts to answer, but her words are cut off as Willow grabs Sara and throws her to the floor.  Willow straddles Saras leg and holds her arms down.

                          SARA
             Willow, please, youre hurting me.

                          WILLOW
I should hurt you.  For saying No to me.

Willow tightens her grip until Sara is forced to cry out.

                          SARA
             Willow, please dont!  Remember...remember
when you came for me here at the warehouse,
when Warren had me?  Do you remember what
             he was doing to me?

                          WILLOW
             Yes.  That bastard.

                          SARA
Well, thats what youre doing to me now.
Youre acting just like him!  Is that how
             you want to be?

                             WILLOW
                  (angry)
No!  Im not like him!  He was --
                  (looks at what shes doing)
             Im not --

                          SARA
The Willow I love wouldnt be doing this.

Willow begins to look confused and then anguished.  She releases Saras arms as if they were burning her hands.

                          WILLOW
             Oh god...oh god...what have I done?

Willow begins to cry.  She reaches out to touch Saras cheek, but pulls back, appalled at the look of fear on Saras face.

Willow gets up and stumbles away, now sobbing.  She doesnt get far before she falls to her knees, overcome by remorse.

Sara comes to Willows side, kneels beside her, and puts her arm around her.  Willow turns and wraps her arms around Sara desperately.  As Sara holds her and comforts Willow, the black slowly fades from Willow.

Willow finally pulls away and looks at Sara, or tries to through the tears.

                          WILLOW
             Sara...Im so sorry...

                          SARA
(puts her hand on Willows mouth)
             Shhh...shhh...its okay.
(moves her hand to Willows cheek,
                   wipes away the tears)

Willow hugs Sara again.

INT. WILLOWS HOUSE - THE BEDROOM - DAY

Willow stands by the window, holding her arms tightly across her chest.  Sara is heard coming up the stairs, then she enters the room and stands just inside the door.  Willow doesnt turn around.

                          WILLOW
             They gone?

                          SARA
Yeah.  After all thats happened, I think
they were ready to go home.  Sleep in their
             own bed, you know?

                          WILLOW
                  (turns around, but doesnt meet
                   Saras gaze)
I guess youll be heading home, too, huh?

                          SARA
                  (moves a step closer)
             What?

                          WILLOW
                  (tries to be brave)
Well, I just thought that youd want
             to...you know...get away from me for a
while.  I mean, I understand if you do.

                          SARA
                  (moves toward Willow)
             Willow, I --

                          WILLOW
                  (holds her hand palm out)
Really, Sara, its okay.  You should go.
You know, have some quality alone time.

                          SARA
             You want me to go?

                          WILLOW
No, I dont want you to go, but if you need
to go, for yourself, for your own peace of
mind, I...I just want you to know that Im
             okay with that.

                          SARA
                  (moves closer, reaches out)
Will, what is going on?  Where is this
             coming from?

                          WILLOW
                  (raising her voice)
             Where do you think?

Willows harsh tone stops Sara in her tracks.

                          WILLOW
I attacked you, Sara!  I hurt you!  Now, you
cant tell me that that hasnt affected you,
that it hasnt changed things between us.
Every time you look at me, every time I try
to touch you, youre going to remember what
             I did, and --

                          SARA
Stop!  Just stop.  Im not leaving.  Im not
leaving this house, and Im not leaving you.

                          WILLOW
             But --

Willow shakes her head, still unwilling to accept the truth.  Sara moves closer.

                          SARA
When Oz changed into a werewolf and tried to
kill you, did you leave him?

                          WILLOW
             No!  Of course not!

                          SARA
             Why not?

                          WILLOW
             Because I loved him.

                          SARA
Do you think I love you any less?

                          WILLOW
No, but...what happened to Oz wasnt
             his fault.

                          SARA
And you think this was your fault?

                          WILLOW
It was!  Oz didnt choose to be bitten by a
werewolf.  He couldnt help what happened to
him.  But I chose to cross that line into
black magic.  I created that evil side of
myself.  So I cant stand here and pretend
that Im not responsible for that.

                          SARA
Okay!  You made a mistake!  Youre entitled.
Youre human.  And you have spent every
waking moment since then trying to make up
for that mistake, trying to make damn sure
             it doesnt happen again.

                          WILLOW
And Ive had such great success with that.

                          SARA
What happened today was not your fault.  You
didnt choose to change, Will.  Wai-Yi had
to force the black magic into you to make
you change.  And before that, you took a
bullet in the chest rather than cross that
line again.  What more can you ask of
             yourself?

                          WILLOW
             I dont know.  I just wish...I wish I hadnt
             hurt you.

                          SARA
             You didnt.  It wasnt you.
                  (looks down)
Im not saying that I havent been affected.
             I have.
                  (looks back up)
             We both have.

Willows expression is pained.  She looks into Saras eyes, then looks away, then repeats the process.  When Willow finally holds Saras gaze, Sara continues.

                          SARA
                  (takes Willows hand)
But we will handle it.  We.  You and me.
             Together.  Okay?

Willows eyes fill with tears.  She nods in agreement.

                          WILLOW
             Okay.

Sara pulls Willow into her arms and hugs her tightly.

THE END

TEASER FOR WILLOW AND SARA SERIES #3:

*** COMING SUMMER OF 2005 (I hope) ***

SUMMARY:

As part of the resurrected Council, Willow takes on a new role as the Watcher of a brand new Slayer.  Anticipating the Slayers arrival, Willow moves to a new house (new to her anyway).  Its an old but large house with more than enough space for Willow and Sara and Andrew as well as for rooms for training and researching.  Excited about the new place, the new Slayer, and her own new role, Willow fails to realize that she is getting much more than she bargained for: a house that exemplifies fixer-upper, a fourteen-year-old Slayer who needs a serious attitude adjustment, a  job that taxes even Willows irrepressible optimism (how did Giles do it?), and an uninvited guest who wreaks havoc on the lives of the houses new occupants.

NOTE:
I didn't even know about the Watchers virtual series until after I had written the first two movies in the Willow and Sara series and outlined the third.  I knew that resurrecting the Council with Willow at the head was a good idea, and I was so pleased to see that some extremely talented writers had taken this idea and run with it.  I hope that my series will be half as good.
