Chapter 9
The Jeep came to a screeching halt outside the Summers home and Buffy put the car in park but didn't bother turning it off. The three of them ran up to the house as Buffy pushed Dawn back.
"Get behind me and Willow," she ordered.
As she opened the door she called out. "Giles? Xander?"
No answer.
"Maybe they're all out back. Kennedy was starting warm ups," Dawn said hopefully.
"Stay close," Willow told Dawn, taking the young woman's hand and following Buffy.
"Anya? Spike?" Buffy called again as she made her way toward the kitchen. She opened the door to the basement and shouted down. "Anybody here?"
Still no answer.
"Okay I don't like this," Dawn remarked.
The trio continued their trip to the back door and collectively they released a sigh of relief to find Kennedy running the SIT's through warm up drills while Anya, Xander and Giles spoke with Tara at the porch steps.
"Short class?" Tara asked Willow with a teasing grin.
"I…uhh…changed my mind. I thought maybe I should stay—try to get as much information as possible."
"Are you sure Will?" Buffy whispered in her ear.
"I can handle it. I'll protect them Buffy."
"As long as your certain," Buffy nodded.
"It's be okay. Go on and get to work. Maybe we'll have more answers by the end of the day."
Buffy nodded and turned to leave when Tara rose. "Hey Buffy. Before you go, mind if I patrol with you tonight? I don't see myself leaving her anytime soon and it would be best that I got familiar with the haunts around here if you know what I mean."
Buffy seemed undecided and shot a look to Willow who just shrugged.
To be continued...
Where do you want to go from here?
