Author's Notes: Okay, the episode IWRY played out the way it did on
screen, but before Buffy could leave, Angel realized that he couldn't live
without her anymore. When he asked the Powers That Be to take back the day, they
also gave him a little extra.
Pairing: Buffy/Angel
Summary: Angel receives another gift.
Buffy sighed as she looked out the bus window. She would be there in about ten minutes. She wished that she was heading back home to Angel and not back to Sunnydale.
Closing her eyes, she let herself remember the look on his face when he told her he wanted to be with her.
//Angel looked from the dead demon to Buffy, knowing that if he didn't stop her, she was going to walk out of his life and he wouldn't see her again, at least not for a while, and that wasn't good enough for the vampire.
"Wait!"
Buffy turned around, seeing Angel standing right behind her.
"Look, you made you decision months ago, I get the message." Her eyes lowered, but not before he saw the hurt and pain in them at his rejection of her yet again.
Angel reached out and cupped her face, smiling inside when he saw that she leaned into his touch just like she used to.
"What can I say? I was stupid."
Buffy's wide eyes flew up to meet his, he couldn't be saying what she prayed he was.
Angel smiled at her and slowly leaned his head down, giving her time to back away, knowing that she wouldn't.
Buffy couldn't hold back her moan when his lips touched her.
'he tastes the same'
Inside, Angel could feel Angelus stirring, and kissed Buffy harder, happy that he knew his soul was safe now, thanks to the Powers. He hadn't been expecting that little surprise, but he was grateful for it.
Buffy pulled away, one hand going up to his face, her fingers touching his lips.
Taking a deep breath, Buffy prayed that she wasn't about to get her heart broken…again.
"Does that mean what I think it means?"
Angel smiled before it slipped a little.
When he saw Buffy's face fall, he rushed to explain.
"My place is in L.A., helping people here, yours in in Sunnydale, but I cant live without you, I've done it these past few months and its been hell, and I know hell. I cant let you walk out of my life again, and I wont forget."
She so wanted to believe him, but there were other factors.
"Angel, nothing's changed."
She was unprepared for the smile that graced his face.
"Buffy, my soul is bound."
Her mouth opened, but no sound came out.
"It only happened today," he wasn't going to tell her about the day that wasn't, it would be too painful, "the powers bound it to me just before you arrived."
Buffy squealed and did the only thing she could.
So, she had kissed him again, but they had decided to stop at kissing and then they had made arrangements for him to come to Sunnydale the following weekend, then, she left.//
Opening her eyes, she noticed that the 'Welcome to Sunnydale' sign looked a bit dented.
Five more minutes passed before she was able to exit the bus.
Taking a deep breath, she grabbed her bag and smiled at her watcher.
"Hey Giles."
Giles smiled at his slayer, taking her bag off her.
"Buffy, how was your trip?" He kept his voice neutral, though inside he was worried about his slayer.
Every time Angel was involved, she somehow got hurt.
He was unprepared for the smile that lit her face.
"Giles, Angel's soul is bound."
Angel was driving Cordy nuts with his pacing.
"Angel, she's been gone for three hours, get over it already."
Angel growled at her, but stopped his pacing and sat down.
That lasted all of five minutes before he was back up and pacing yet again.
"Doyle! Talk to him."
Doyle look up from the magazine he was looking at and shook his head.
"Nothing to do with me Princess, I'm staying out of this one."
"Angel look-" Cordy was cut off by the phone.
Nobody saw Angel move.
"Buffy?"
"Yeah, its me."
Angel breathed a sigh of relief and sat down, content now that he was talking to Buffy.
"Hey, how was your trip?"
"Long, I miss you."
"I miss you too baby."
Buffy woke up the next morning, happy that there was only five days until Angel got there.
Looking over at her roommate, her heart twisted that she had the man she loved, while Willow had lost Oz.
It was true what they said. Bad things did happen to good people, but then, that was life after all.
Picking up her shower things, Buffy reset the alarm for Willow and left the room, hoping to wash, change and hopefully finish the homework she had for Professor Walsh.
Something wasn't right. Buffy didn't know why she thought that, there was nothing out of the ordinary.
She was with her friends and the man, okay vampire, she loved had just asked her to marry him.
A smile lit her face and she reached for the phone.
Having no clue why she felt the need to tell Angel, she dialed his number and waited for him to answer.
He was going to kill him.
He was going to torture him for weeks before staking him to the ground and watching as the sun turned him to dust.
Spike was going to die, both man and demon were in perfect harmony.
Nobody touched what belonged to them, and Buffy definitely belonged to both.
Buffy was in the middle of walking a plastic bride and groom up Spike's arm, when Giles front door burst open.
Looking over, she saw Angel standing there, in full vamp mode.
She jumped up excitedly and ran over to him before thrusting her hand in his face, and showing off her engagement ring.
"Isn't it beautiful!"
Angel growled and stormed past her over to Spike.
"Get up."
Spike gulped at the look of pure rage on his Sire's face and shakily stood up.
Angel had just grabbed him by the collar, his fist drawn back to hit him, when he was slammed into from behind.
Growling, he turned and was faced with a right hook from Buffy.
She watched as Angel fell on his ass, feeling like she shouldn't be doing this, but he had tried to hurt her Spike!
Whipping out her stake, she jumped on him, raising it above his heart.
Angel swallowed and his game face melted away, leaving pain filled chocolate brown eyes.
What had happened since they had last spoken to turn her against him, to make her fall in love with Spike?
Buffy's hand began the swing that would send the stake into Angel's heart.
A part of her heart screamed that this was wrong, that killing him was the last thing she wanted, but then she thought of Spike and her resolve hardened.
Just as she was about to make contact, the door swung open again, this time bringing with it Xander and Anya.
Xander took one look at what was happening and knew, without a measure of doubt in his head, that if Buffy did this, she wouldn't survive it this time.
"Buffy! NO!"
Her attention moved to her friend and Angel took the opportunity to push her off him and back away from her, hurt in his eyes.
"Fine, if you love Spike that much, I'll go, I…" but he couldn't finish, rage and pain were fighting for dominance, he didn't know which would win.
"Whoa, hold up! Buffy, and Spike? Spike and Buffy?" Xander shook his head, knowing that something wasn't right, that he had heard that somewhere else today.
"Willow!"
Everyone turned to face him, even Angel who was half out the door.
"What about Willow?" Buffy was worried that something had happened to her friend.
"This is all a spell!"
Angel's eyes widened and hope filled him, hope and anger.
Angel closed his eyes as he saw Buffy climb on top of Spike, kissing him as he lay on the crypt floor as the battle went on around them.
Angelus was screaming for blood, Spike's and Willow's.
Jumping into action, he tackled the demon that was attacking Xander when it suddenly disappeared.
Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Willow standing there, looking sheepish, but his attention was on Buffy.
Bile rose up in her throat as memories from the past few hours assaulted her.
Whimpering, she pushed up off Spike, ignoring his 'Buffy taste' comment and her eyes found Angel.
Oh god, Angel.
"Angel…" her voice was so soft, and filled with worry.
He wanted to take her into his arms and tell her everything would be fine between them, but he couldn't, all he could see when he looked at her, was her moaning into Spike's mouth as they kissed, the same way she moaned for him.
Buffy's eyes filled with tears which she refused to let fall.
Turning, she spotted Willow in the corner of the room and her eyes turned hard.
"Willow, I know that your hurting right now and I'm sorry about that," Buffy's voice lowered and it was wonder Willow heard her, "but if I see you in the next few days, I might do something I will regret later. Stay away."
Turning away from the hurt expression on her friends face, Buffy faced Angel one last time.
He watched as a tear fell that she couldn't keep in, before he saw her turn and run away.
Buffy ran, tears streaming down her face, with only one destination in mind.
Throwing open the door, she rushed inside and found the person she was looking for sitting in the living room, drinking a cup of hot chocolate.
"Mommy?"
Joyce looked over and saw the tears that were falling from Buffy's eyes.
Standing up, she hugged her daughter before leading her over to the couch to sit.
"Oh sweetie, what's happened?"
Buffy opened her mouth to tell her mother everything, but all that came out was a wail, before she buried her head in her mothers neck and cried.
She felt violated, that spell made her believe that she loved Spike of all people.
And because of it, she had yet again messed up, just like she always did and now Angel couldn't even stand to look at her.
Angel watched as Buffy left in tears, and he felt lost.
Turning to the redhead, Angel felt the need to unleash his anger on her, but that would be unacceptable, so he did the next best thing.
Stalking over to Spike, Angel vamped out and pulled him up by the collar, snarling and singing his fangs into his Childe's neck.
After taking a few sips, he pulled back before punching Spike hard enough to knock him unconscious.
"You're lucky you never tasted her."
Leaving the Scoobies standing behind him, Angel strode out of the crypt to look for his love, only to find her gone from the cemetery.
He didn't want to knock on her door. The last time he saw her, she was convincing him to leave Buffy, but he had looked everywhere around town and he couldn't find Buffy, so he was hoping that she was here.
Just as he raised his hand to knock, the door opened and there she was, her eyes red from crying.
"Angel?" Only she could say his name like that.
Angel felt like an ass. He shouldn't have bothered with Spike and should have went straight to see if Buffy was okay.
He opened his arms and Buffy flew into them, sobbing and burying her face in his neck.
"I'm sorry, so sorry."
Angel pulled back and cupped her face, wiping away her tears.
"It wasn't your fault, you hear me?"
Buffy lowered her eyes and looked away, causing the vampire to frown and tug her head up so she would meet his eyes.
"Do I hate that it happened? Do I hate that I saw you whimpering and moaning for him?" he vamped out and growled before carrying on, "yes, but I know it wasn't your fault."
Buffy took a deep breath and opened her mouth to speak, when Joyce appeared.
When she heard who was at the door, Joyce realized that Angel was the reason her baby was crying her heart out.
"Angel."
Angel tried to hide his glare at her, he really didn't like the woman, even thought he knew that if she hadn't of told him to leave, then he would never had gotten turned human for that one day and he would never had gotten his Soul bound.
Even though he tried to hide the glare, Buffy saw it and frowned.
"Hello Joyce."
Shaking the frown off, Buffy turned to her mom.
"We're going to take a walk."
Five minutes later, they were leaving Buffy's house, their destination unknown.
Angel kept his senses open, looking for any demons that could be a threat, knowing Buffy was doing the same.
Seeing a bench, he guided them over and pulled Buffy down beside him, never letting go of her hand.
When he didn't speak, Buffy got nervous.
"Angel?"
Angel turned to face her, finally coming out of his thoughts.
"Sorry, a lot on my mind right now."
Buffy lowered her head and looked away, not speaking in case she said the wrong thing and upset him more.
"Buffy," Angel guided her face up until they were eye level, "are you okay?"
A tear escaped before Buffy could stop it.
"I…no."
Angel's heart broke at the sad tone his slayer used.
"It's just, she's my best friend, and I know on some level she didn't mean to do what she did, but honestly, right now, I hate her."
Angel frowned and wrapped his arms around his distressed girlfriend.
"She made me believe, truly believe that I was in love with Spike. There was times throughout the spell when I knew something didn't feel right, but when I questioned it, his face would appear and the feeling would be gone."
Angel tightened his hold and managed to stop a growl at the thought of Buffy with Spike.
"She made me forget I loved you." It was said so quietly, that only his enhanced senses allowed him to catch it.
That was what was really bothering her, the fact that Willow had stripped her of the one thing that was pure in her life. Her love for Angel.
Sure, she loved her friends and family, but there was never anyone, or anything, other than Angel that made her feel safe, that loved her unconditionally.
Her mother didn't really understand her life and when she had tried explaining, she had kicked her out. Her friends couldn't understand either. They kept trying to make her into perfect Buffy, and that wasn't who she was.
Sure, she was the slayer, but she was still just a girl.
Angel understood that. He knew what she faced as the slayer, because he faced it too. He could understand her like no-one else, unless she counted Faith, who was still in a coma, so she was out.
He knew how lonely it was, and that if there was one thing Buffy feared, it was being alone.
"I wouldn't have let you marry him, not while your still married to me."
Buffy pulled back, very slowly, and just looked at him.
Angel smiled, but it was uncertain.
Buffy slowly let a smile creep across her face.
"So, you're finally fessing up to the true meaning of the ring?"
Angel's eyes widened.
"You mean you knew?"
Buffy snuggled closer to him.
"I had Willow research it for me. I knew it was an old custom, because, well, you told me it was used when you were human."
They were both silent for a moment.
"Why didn't he ever use it against me?"
There was no question as to who she was talking about.
"Because, in his own way, Angelus loves you just as I do."
Buffy didn't say anything and snuggled in, placing a small kiss where his pulse would be if he was human.
As she closed her eyes, a flash hit her of her doing exactly that, only in the flash, there was a steady beat under her lips.
She shook her head and leaned up to see his eyes.
"How long are you here for?"
Angel smiled and pulled her closer.
"Don't know. I only came down to kill Spike and…" he cut off.
"And what?" Buffy turned curious eyes to her vampire.
What he wanted to say, was that he came to kill Spike and then he was going to re-stake his claim on her, but he didn't think that telling her that would be wise.
"To kill Spike and made sure you were okay." That was true too.
Buffy smiled and snuggled into his side more.
"What did you do to him?" Cordy yelled at the fading actress.
Rebecca flinched and turned away.
"I didn't do anything to him."
Cordy lost it and stalked over to her, doing a good impersonation of her boss.
"You must have done something if he is trying to kill you."
"I may have slipped him Doximall."
Cordy frowned and turned towards Wes.
"But he can't lose his soul, it's bound, and if I'm not wrong, Doximall causes a feeling of euphoria, bliss, but it shouldn't make him Angelus again because he can't lose his soul."
Wes didn't understand it either, but then, they had other things to worry about, like the fact the Angelus was now in the room.
"Ah look, its my friends." He mocked them as he stepped into the room, vamp face to the fore.
"Angel?" Cordy whispered as she backed away from her friend.
She had never really gotten it before when he had turned evil back in Sunnydale.
Now she realized to some degree just what Buffy had gone through.
"Cordy Cordy Cordy, miss me?" Angelus snarled at her, ready to kill someone.
"Oh please, you remember what happened last time you got out to play?" she tried to sound confident, but the sound that left her mouth, was that of a scared child.
Angelus paused before cocking his head.
"Yeah, but Buffy's not here yet."
As soon as the idea formed in his head, Angelus knew where he was going.
Dismissing his friends altogether, he turned around and left the building, one destination in mind.
Buffy grabbed her bag and ran after Willow to catch up, she never heard the phone ring in their dorm room.
A few hours later, they were both walking through town, Buffy patrolling and Willow keeping her company.
"So, how's things going with Angel?"
Instantly Buffy got a smile on her face.
"Great, I mean, I miss him when we don't get to see each other, but we talk everyday."
She stopped walking when she felt something go through her.
"Will, did you feel that?"
Willow looked worried and shook her head no.
Trying to reassure her friend, Buffy commented that she must have imagined it and they carried on with their patrol.
Buffy stopped laughing, at the joke Willow had told her, when they reached the door to their dorm room.
"Buffy?"
Buffy turned to look at her friend.
"Something isn't right."
Willow's eyes widened as she saw the slayer mask fall over her friend before Buffy gripped the door handle unlocked the door.
The site that greeted her when the door opened, shocked her for a minute.
Why was she getting evil vibes when Angel was sitting on her bed, holding Mr Gordo, unless of course…
Buffy's heart was in her throat.
"Angelus." It wasn't a question. Behind her, she could hear Willow's gasp.
"Hey Buff."
Buffy found herself thinking of every place in the room where she had weapons that she could use, even as she stared at the one person who had the ability to hurt her the most.
Her eyes snapped back to his as a thought struck her and Angelus smiled when he saw jealously and anger in her gaze.
"So much for your soul being bound. Who was it?"
As she asked the question, Buffy swore she felt her heart break.
Not only had Angel made love to someone who wasn't her, but it had also brought out Angelus.
Angelus smirked at his mate, completely ignoring the witch beside her.
"Buff, do you honestly believe that soul boy would fuck someone else?"
She didn't, but obviously, he had.
"What happened?"
Angelus relaxed even more against the bed, his position so sexual Buffy forgot what she had asked him for a second.
"Willow? Why don't you run along to Giles, give Buff and me some privacy." It wasn't a question.
Willow looked over to Buffy to gage her reaction to this and saw her friend nod her head.
With one last look at her best friend, Willow left the room, praying that she would see Buffy again, alive.
"So?"
Angelus patted the bed beside him, but Buffy simply raised her eyebrow in a 'you have to be kidding' gesture.
Standing up, Angelus reached Buffy's side and took her hand, leading her to the bed.
Buffy was shocked at how gentle he was being, that she didn't think to struggle against him.
"Angel got his drink spiked. He's still in here, but I'm in control for now."
He didn't want to talk, he didn't know how long it would be until the soul got control of the body again, and he wanted to put his own mark of Buffy.
Before she could react, he had her on the bed, spread out before him before he covered her body with his, fusing their mouths together.
Buffy's mind raced as Angelus settled more fully on top of her.
She had missed this, missed feeling him surrounding her, protecting her, like only he could.
It didn't matter who he was, because she knew, deep in her bones, in her soul, that soul or no soul, he loved her.
Angelus grinned to himself when he felt her surrender.
Angel was awake, but he kept his body still, not wanting Buffy to know he was awake.
He felt Buffy's warm skin wrapped tightly around his own as he held her.
He could feel Angelus, just under the surface and he knew that nothing would ever been the same.
Whatever the Powers That Be had done to bind his soul, it had somehow merged Angel and Angelus, letting the latter exert some control, hence him coming out when Angel was drugged.
As he slept, the oracles had come to him, or brought him to them, he wasn't sure, but they had told him what they had done.
He didn't want Angelus so close to the surface, but what he gained in return was more than worth it.
He could be with Buffy.
He must have made some form of movement, because Buffy's hand moved up into his hair, gently stroking his skin as she listened to Cordy rant and rave.
That was another thing. Angel had wanted nothing more that to ravish Buffy when he woke, but he couldn't very well do that with Wes and Cordy in the room.
"I mean, come on Buffy, what's Angel going to say when he wakes up?"
Buffy rolled her eyes at the brunette.
"It doesn't matter who wakes up, Angel or Angelus, I can handle them."
Angel felt pride well up in him, knowing that without a doubt, Buffy could kick his ass.
"Well, if that's what you call fucking Angelus all night, then yeah, I'm sure you can handle him just fine."
Angel tensed, but Buffy leaned down, placing a small kiss on his brow.
Under the covers, he pulled her body closer to his, his leg slipping in between both of hers, his thigh rubbing against her core.
Buffy held in her moan tightened her grip on his scalp, trying to tell him to back off, she couldn't concentrate while he did that.
He applied more pressure before backing off.
Buffy turned to the other two people in the room. Wes was trying to look anywhere but at Buffy, who was only covered by her bed sheets, while Cordy was glaring at her.
She opened her mouth to tell Cordy to fuck off, when the door burst open.
There stood Xander, Willow and Giles, each armed to the teeth,
Buffy had wondered when they were going to show up.
"Hey guys."
"Are you NUTS!" Xander yelled as he stalked towards the bed.
Angel growled and his game face flashed before he sat up, uncaring that the sheets fell, exposing his naked body.
Buffy cared though and forced him back down before covering his body, only she got to see that.
"Calm down."
Angel's growling stopped and his game face melted away, but Xander didn't take the warning.
"Buffy, what the hell were you thinking? He could have killed you, all because you wanted a fuck!"
Buffy couldn't believe the hurtful things he was saying to her.
"Xand…"
"No Buffy, that's Angelus you have in bed with you. Willow tried the spell to restore his soul, it wasn't there Buff, he's all demon."
Angel could feel Angelus trying to come to the surface and pushed him down.
"Boy, you better shut up before I hurt you."
Xander didn't heed the warning and stalked over to the bed.
"You couldn't kill him last time, look how many people died. Who has to die this time Buff?"
Angel vamped again and went to get up, but Buffy stopped him.
He turned golden eyes to her, and flinched at the pain he saw in hers.
"Could everyone please leave and let us dress."
"I'm not leaving until I know who it is you are in bed with."
Buffy looked into the cold gaze of her watcher and swallowed.
She turned her head to see Angel, watching as his golden gaze melted into chocolate brown.
She gave him a watery smile and turned back to Giles.
"He's Angel."
Angel turned to glare at the humans still in the room.
"She asked you to leave."
Giles flinched from the glare, it was much too Angelus like for him.
"Buffy, I expect to see you later." He left without another word, Xander following, then Cordy, then Wes. Willow waited until they had all gone before looking back at her best friend.
"Are you okay?"
Buffy smiled. Willow was the first person to ask her that.
"I am."
Willow smiled back and grabbed her book bag off her bed before waving and leaving.
Buffy stayed silent, not knowing how Angel was feeling over her and Angelus.
She got her answer when he rolled on top of her.
Leaning down, he brushed his lips against her, before sucking first the top, then the bottom between his own.
Buffy moaned and pulled him closer to her body, her legs coming up to wrap around his waist.
Angel thrust his hips against her own, and was rewarded with her groan of pleasure.
"Love, I want to take it slow, but I need you,"
Buffy moaned her agreement, and then he was inside her.
He couldn't contain his growl, but he was able to keep his face smooth and fang free.
Buffy's back arched as she thrust up to meet him, giving him the opportunity to slide his hands under her ass, tilting her more.
As he moved deeper inside, Buffy's eyes shot open, meeting his chocolate brown ones.
"Love…You…" Buffy panted as his thrusts became harder and deeper.
"Mine." Angel growled as he felt her climax starting.
Buffy arched her neck for him, and as he bit in, her orgasm hit her, and the only word she knew, was his name.
"Are you mad at me?"
Angel turned his head, taking his eyes off the road for a moment, to look at Buffy.
They were currently heading over to Giles' apartment, and so far they had drove in silence.
"Why would I be mad?"
Buffy fidgeted and avoided his eyes.
"Because of last night, because of Angelus."
Angel slowed the car, before pulling into the side of the road.
"Buffy, love, I'm not mad at you."
She looked up, her eyes hopeful.
"Really?"
He reached out to cup her chin, and used his grip to pull her face close.
"Its taken me a long time to come to terms with the fact that Angelus is always there, always a part of me. The fact that you accepted him, me, all of me, doesn't make me mad. It makes me lucky."
He closed the distance between them and kissed her, putting all his love into it.
Buffy pulled back, only because she had to and smiled at him.
"I love you,"
He smiled, that soft one she loved to see on his handsome face.
"I love you too."
